Ulysse Nardin is a brand whose stature has been steadily rising from the shadows. It holds a special place in my heart, as it was one of the first maisons I discovered when I began my journey as a young watchmaker. With a rich history of crafting beautiful timepieces, the brand continues to impress today with modern creations that are not only extraordinary but also daringly innovative.

While many remarkable pieces pass through our shop, I must admit that this 1940s chronograph is among my favorites. Its case design is simple and clean, yet the stepped lugs—my personal favorite detail—give it a distinctive and captivating character. On my 17.5 cm wrist, it wears comfortably, with proportions that feel just right. The balance between the dial and the hands is flawless, and inside beats the Valjoux 23, a movement that has proven its reliability over decades.

If you take a closer look at the caseback photos, you’ll notice numerous inscriptions—silent witnesses to the fascinating life this timepiece has already lived.

Watchmaker’s Technical Report

The watch is in pre-owned (or “pre-loved”) condition. The case is crafted from gold and shows no critical structural issues, only cosmetic wear. There are minor dents on the side of the case, and the bezel and caseback display service-related marks from its past use. Overall, the case remains in good condition, with the crown showing no significant wear and the lugs free from bending.

The dial is genuine with its original finish, exhibiting lacquer oxidation (commonly referred to as patina). The patina is uniform across the dial. Please refer to the photos for a full assessment of the dial’s condition. The dial also shows some age-related marks consistent with prior use.

All hands are original and well-preserved. The minute hand shows slight oxidation, but overall, the set is in very good condition.

The movement is also well preserved, showing age-appropriate signs. There is some surface rust on select components. Although the watch arrived at our workshop labeled as “serviced,” this was not done recently. As visible in the macro photographs, certain bushings appear dry or contain aged, thickened lubricants.

The watch has not been serviced in our workshop, so buying it without our additional inhouse service, may be a watch considered as a found in, unchecked condition, without a warranty.

The watch may be purchased as is, or with our in-house servicing upon request. To obtain a one- or two-year warranty, we recommend selecting our service option. Please contact us before or after reserving the watch to arrange details.
